A shocking incident unfolded outside YG Entertainment’s headquarters this past Thursday night, as a woman in her 20s was arrested on suspicion of damaging the entrance of YG Entertainment’s headquarters with a golf club, according to local media reports Friday.
Mapo police apprehended the woman around 9 p.m. Thursday outside YG Entertainment’s headquarters in Hapjeong-dong, Seoul.
When asked about the unprecedented incident, a YG Entertainment official confirmed to The Korea Herald that it had taken place but declined to provide further details. The official stated, ” We understand that she was handed over to the police. It is difficult for us to confirm any further details.”
The dramatic event gained viral attention thanks to a fan filming a dance video nearby, who recorded the woman running toward the building with a golf club and repeatedly striking the glass entrance doors. The video quickly spread on social media Friday, leaving many K-Pop fans stunned.
Eyewitness accounts from the video show she appeared to raise the club several more times but was restrained by a bystander before police arrived and took her into custody.
Police are reportedly investigating the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident.
Adding fuel to the discussion, unverified rumors claimed the woman was a Blackpink fan frustrated by what some saw as insufficient group-focused celebrations before the group’s 10th anniversary. This potential motive has sparked considerable debate within the K-Pop community, highlighting the intense dedication and sometimes frustration of fans.
