Xdinary Heroes: Gunil Departs, Summer Sonic 2026 Shows Canceled

A significant development has hit Villains worldwide as Xdinary Heroes, JYP Entertainment’s popular band, announces the departure of leader and drummer Gunil amidst a personal controversy. Following this news, the group has also confirmed the cancellation of their highly anticipated performances at Summer Sonic 2026.

Summer Sonic 2026 Performances Canceled

The official Summer Sonic 2026 social media account released a statement on August 13th, confirming Xdinary Heroes’ withdrawal from the festival.

The announcement read, “We received a request from the agency to withdraw from the performance, so Xdinary Heroes’ appearance has been canceled,” further expressing, “We sincerely apologize to the audience who were looking forward to their performance.” The festival organizers also clarified that there would be no replacement artist for the band’s slot.

Xdinary Heroes was originally slated for two performances: on the Pacific Stage at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo on August 14th and on the Massive Stage at Maishima Sports Island in Osaka on August 16th. The cancellation of these major overseas festival dates comes as a heavy blow to fans eager to see the band perform.

Gunil’s Departure and Controversy

The announcement of their festival absence arrived swiftly after Gunil’s departure from the group was confirmed on the very same day. This decision stems from a controversy that had been circulating online. Earlier, posts and call recordings, allegedly from A, a former partner of Gunil, gained traction across social media and online communities. These allegations claimed the voice in the recordings belonged to Gunil and that he had used abusive and derogatory language towards fans.

Responding to the grave allegations, JYP Entertainment issued a detailed statement regarding the situation. They announced, “We deeply recognize the gravity of the situation regarding member Gunil, and after extensive discussions with the artist, we concluded that continuing group activities together is no longer feasible, so we mutually agreed to terminate the contract.” The agency further confirmed, “As of today, Gunil has officially left Xdinary Heroes and ended his activities with the group.”

What’s Next for Xdinary Heroes?

This sudden turn of events — the leader’s departure and the immediate cancellation of major international engagements — signifies a period of significant transition for Xdinary Heroes. The band is set to continue as a five-member unit, navigating these changes as they move forward. Villains are undoubtedly hoping for the group to overcome this challenging period and return stronger than ever.
