My Bias, My Boss: Idol Fan Meets Boss in New Rom-Com!

tvN’s ‘My Bias, My Boss’ Premieres with High Anticipation

tvN’s new Monday-Tuesday drama ‘My Bias, My Boss,’ which succeeded ‘See You at Work Tomorrow!’, which wrapped up with a 4.5% viewership rating, premiered on August 3. Even before its debut, the teaser drew attention for the lead actors’ visuals and chemistry, fueling anticipation among viewers.

Based on the globally popular web novel ‘My Oppa Is an Idol,’ the office romance follows rookie employee Nam Da Reum, who joins the company founded by her favorite idol in hopes of meeting him. Kang Hoon, Kim Hye Joon, and Cha Woo Min lead the central love triangle, while ITZY’s Yuna, Gong Ji Ho, and Kim Ah Young add youthful energy to the workplace drama.

The Unexpected Love Triangle: Idol, Boss, and Fan

She joined the company to meet her favorite idol… but started falling for the CEO
At the heart of ‘My Bias, My Boss’ is Nam Da Reum (played by Kim Hye Jun), a devoted fan of Lee Chan (played by Cha Woo Min) from the idol group D.N.X.

Inspired by Lee Chan, Nam Da Reum dreams of becoming a “successful fan” by working alongside her favorite idol one day. She even turns down an opportunity at a major corporation to join Apello, the fashion platform co-founded by Lee Chan and CEO Kang Ha Gi (Kang Hoon).

However, her office life quickly takes an unexpected turn. Before she even has a chance to properly meet Lee Chan, she becomes entangled with Apello’s perfectionist CEO, Kang Ha Gi. Though flawless at work, Kang Ha Gi struggles with romance and gradually finds himself unable to ignore the unpredictable rookie employee.

Meanwhile, Lee Chan—who has spent years receiving fans’ love without experiencing genuine romance—slowly begins to see Nam Da Reum differently as he realizes the depth of her longtime support. The result is a full-fledged love triangle between her favorite idol and her boss.

One of the drama’s biggest early questions is whether Nam Da Reum will choose the idol she has admired for years or the CEO she meets at work as her new “true favorite.”

Meet the Stars Making Their Rom-Com Debut

Kang Hoon, Kim Hye Joon, and Cha Woo Min all made their romantic comedy debuts through My Bias, My Boss.

Known for her performances in action and thriller projects, Kim Hye Joon showcased a brighter, more lovable side as Nam Da Reum.

“I’ve always wanted to try a romantic comedy, but when the opportunity finally came, I felt overwhelmed and pressured,” she said. “I tried to bring out as much charm as I could in this role.”

Kim Hye Joon is also currently appearing in Disney+’s ‘A Shop for Killers 2,’ giving audiences the chance to see her tackle two completely different genres—action thriller and romantic comedy—at the same time.

Kang Hoon plays Apello CEO Kang Ha Gi, a capable professional who is awkward when it comes to love. Director Park Ji Hyun said Kang Hoon possesses both a warm, puppy-like charm and a cool, composed presence, making him the ideal actor to showcase multiple sides of the character.

Cha Woo Min’s Lee Chan is a top star with idol-worthy visuals and the acting experience of a veteran. His gratitude toward Nam Da Reum, who has supported him for years, gradually develops into genuine affection, setting up his rivalry with Kang Ha Gi.

Beyond Romance: A Coming-of-Age Story About Finding Yourself

More than romance: A coming-of-age story about finding yourself

Director Park Ji Hyun described the series as “Nam Da Reum’s extraordinary journey to work, from chasing her favorite idol as a fan to becoming the true employee of the person she admires while discovering who she really is.”

He added that what impressed him most about the original work was its authentic portrayal of office life and the feeling of sincerely loving someone. That passion becomes the driving force behind work and personal growth, creating a warm and relatable story.

Balancing realistic workplace struggles with the fantasy of idol fandom was no easy task. To strengthen the emotional connections between the characters while preserving the original’s warmth, the production team introduced several new elements not found in the source material.

Although Nam Da Reum initially joins Apello simply to meet Lee Chan, she eventually develops a new dream of becoming a fashion marketer through her experiences with colleagues. Rather than chasing society’s definition of success, she learns to follow her own heart in search of her true “favorite,” making her journey relatable for young viewers.

Fan Excitement and What to Expect

“Their chemistry is insane”… Trailer sparks excitement
The teaser and highlight videos released ahead of the premiere offered fans a first look at the central love triangle.

Kang Ha Gi appears cold and distant at first but gradually opens his heart to Nam Da Reum, while Lee Chan warmly approaches the fan who has supported him for years, creating two very different romantic dynamics.

Beyond the romance, the series also highlights friendships among rookie employees and everyday office life. ITZY’s Yuna plays Yoon Choi, while Gong Ji Ho and Kim Ah Young portray colorful supporting characters who bring additional energy to the workplace.

Kang Hoon said, “Anyone who’s ever truly liked someone will think of our drama,” pointing to Nam Da Reum’s first meeting with her favorite idol as one of the show’s biggest highlights.

Kim Hye Joon emphasized Nam Da Reum’s journey toward discovering her dream and the friendships she builds along the way, while Cha Woo Min described the series as a comforting drama that allows viewers to relax and enjoy everyday moments.

Online viewers responded enthusiastically to the trailer with comments including, “The visual chemistry is insane,” “It already looks fun from the preview,” “All three leads have amazing chemistry,” “I can’t wait for this office love triangle,” and “The thumbnail alone is pure dopamine.”

With its blend of idol fandom, workplace life, romance, and coming-of-age storytelling, viewers are watching closely to see whether ‘My Bias, My Boss’ can outperform its predecessor and establish itself as tvN’s next successful Monday-Tuesday drama.

‘My Bias, My Boss’ premiered on August 3 at 8:45 PM KST.
