Ex-Idol Park Hyun Ho Shares Mental Health & Family Support

A former K-Pop idol recently opened up about the immense emotional toll of repeated failures in his career, sharing a deeply personal story of struggle, resilience, and the unwavering support of his family.

On the latest episode of KBS2’s hit variety show *Mr. House Husband Season 2*, aired on August 22nd, viewers were introduced to Park Hyun Ho, a determined singer striving to re-establish his presence in the music industry, and his supportive wife, trot singer Eun Ga Eun.

While Eun Ga Eun is busy with her career, childcare, and household management, Park Hyun Ho revealed his bitter feelings due to a lack of scheduled activities. He often takes on the role of caring for his busy wife, reflecting on a past where he was a more recognized figure.

The Weight of Unfulfilled Dreams

Park Hyun Ho began his poignant confession by stating, “I used to be Park Hyun Ho, the famous person everyone recognized on the street.” He elaborated on his demanding journey, “I was an idol trainee for three years and was active for three years after debuting. When I didn’t succeed as an idol, there were many places that called me, so I thought ‘I can do it again.’ But when a standout success didn’t come, I thought that being an entertainer wasn’t the right path for me.”

A Journey Through Groups and Despair

Park Hyun Ho, who previously went by the stage name Seogoong, was initially a member of the K-Pop group TOPP DOGG. After the group faced limited success, he transitioned to another group, UnderDogg, and even pursued a solo career under the name I’M. However, despite his persistent efforts across these different ventures, significant success remained elusive.

Feeling disheartened, he eventually made the difficult decision to give up on his dream of being a singer and enlisted in the military. Upon his discharge, a new path emerged: he challenged himself as a trot singer, taking on any stage available to make himself known again.

The pressure and disappointments, however, continued to mount. Park Hyun Ho candidly confessed to a moment of profound despair, revealing that he even attempted to jump out of a window. “I felt like the world didn’t like me,” he shared. In a moment he now describes as “unfilial,” his mother intervened, pulling him back from the brink.

Finding Strength in Family and a New Path

Despite these harrowing experiences, Park Hyun Ho affirmed, “Now I’m living harder than anyone.” He’s actively promoting himself by visiting diverse locations, from highway rest areas and tourist buses to singing classes, tirelessly working to connect with audiences and build his career from the ground up.

During one of his enthusiastic promotional stops at a singing class, Eun Ga Eun made a heartwarming appearance, holding their child. She spoke tenderly about her husband, saying, “He’s kind and pure. He gives all the money he earns. He treats our daughter well and puts family first. I hope my husband succeeds,” showcasing her deep love and unwavering support.

In a touching response, Park Hyun Ho expressed his gratitude, stating, “These days, I can find strength thanks to my family. Since meeting Ga Eun, I’ve been able to make myself more known. I’m truly grateful to my wife.” His words highlighted the transformative power of his family’s love in his journey.

Eun Ga Eun’s Enduring Faith

Eun Ga Eun, in a separate interview, shared her perspective on her husband’s struggles and her heartfelt concern. “Hyun Ho has struggled a lot since he was young as an idol. But whenever he says, ‘Thanks to Eun Ga Eun, I’ve come this far,’ or, ‘Thanks to Eun Ga Eun, I’ve become known,’ it hurts my heart. He says things that don’t need to be said and keeps lowering himself. Every time I see that, it hurts because he’s not a pitiful person.” Her words revealed a desire for him to acknowledge his own worth and achievements.

She concluded with a powerful message of encouragement, adding, “Although he’s not in high demand now, I hope that one day my husband will be so successful that he can say, ‘I was too busy to see you even once this week.’ And I believe he will become that kind of singer,” expressing her profound faith in his future success.
