K-pop boy group XODIAC recently set the K-pop world abuzz with the reveal of their highly anticipated first official lightstick design, a moment fans eagerly await from any rising group.
For those new to their journey, XODIAC debuted on April 25, 2023, making a memorable entrance with their digital single “Throw a Dice” after garnering attention as the OCJ NEWBIES trainee group. The talented ensemble has since continued to build their discography, most recently returning with their third mini-album titled Phantom Fire, showcasing their versatile sound and captivating performances.
Anticipation was high as the group prepared for several live performances, sharing a list of official merchandise (MDs) that, naturally, included their first official lightstick. Interestingly, the group had previously released another version of a lightstick featuring an ‘X’ design. This iconic ‘X’ motif was intended to continue through with this new lightstick, though with some notable aesthetic differences intended to elevate its visual appeal.

However, what was meant to be a celebratory reveal quickly turned into a significant discussion. After the design was unveiled, a segment of the audience immediately pointed out a striking resemblance: the lightstick’s new shape appeared to echo the Star of David. This symbol has profoundly grown to be the most recognized emblem of Jewish people worldwide and is notably featured on the Israeli Flag. The unexpected visual connection caused immediate concern and sparked widespread conversation across fan communities and social media platforms.

Almost immediately following the surge of discussions and concerns, the video initially featuring the new lightstick design was swiftly made private. Acknowledging the gravity of the situation and the immediate feedback from fans, JACSO Entertainment, XODIAC’s agency, promptly released a statement addressing the mounting concerns over the lightstick’s design. This quick response demonstrated a clear understanding of the cultural and religious sensitivities involved.
