K-Pop star Chungha recently opened up about the stark differences between her childhood dreams and her current reality as she navigates her early 30s, sparking a candid discussion among fellow idols. The beloved singer, known for her powerful dance and captivating stage presence, shared surprisingly honest thoughts that many fans can relate to, revealing a side often hidden behind the glamorous K-Pop facade.
The conversation unfolded on August 5th in a video titled “Anyway, I Came to Talk,” released on the YouTube channel Okiki Okk. In this heart-to-heart discussion, Chungha was joined by Gabi, Ji Ye Eun, and Heize, all of whom shared their perspectives on reaching their 30s and the expectations versus experiences that come with this milestone.
Chungha’s Candid Confession on Turning 30
Chungha’s confession particularly resonated, as she admitted the significant gap between her youthful aspirations and her current life post-30. “When I was really young, I thought by the time I was 30, I’d have a house, a car, and a lot of dating experience, but I don’t have any of that,” she revealed with raw honesty. She further added, “I thought I’d at least have a house, a car, or a boyfriend,” highlighting a feeling of unfulfilled expectations despite her massive success in the industry.
This poignant admission prompted Gabi to recall a past visit to Chungha’s home. “When I was a dancer, I went to Chungha’s house, and it was so nice,” Gabi recounted, adding that it was “the house I dreamed of for my 30s. It was the home of a successful woman.” This anecdote initially painted a picture of achievement, making Chungha’s subsequent comments even more impactful.

The Bittersweet Reality of Idol Life
Gabi continued, sharing, “I said, ‘This is so nice, I’m so jealous,’ and Chungha said, ‘Unnie, I can’t live here.’ I didn’t understand at the time, but now I totally get that situation. You’re living in a nice place but can’t afford to buy it,” expressing a bittersweet understanding of the financial realities even for successful idols. This sheds light on the often-misunderstood financial situations within the K-Pop world, where appearances can be deceiving, and owning assets can be different from enjoying temporary luxuries.
Chungha’s Journey: From I.O.I to Solo Stardom
Born in 1996, Chungha officially turned 30 this year, a significant milestone that prompted her reflections. Her journey to stardom began with Mnet’s audition program Produce 101, where her exceptional dance skills and charming persona propelled her to a fourth-place finish. She then debuted in 2016 as a member of the iconic project girl group I.O.I, contributing to massive hits like “Very Very Very,” “Whatta Man,” and “Downpour,” enjoying a period of immense popularity.
Following the conclusion of I.O.I’s highly successful activities, Chungha launched her solo career in 2017 with her first mini-album “Hands On Me,” quickly establishing herself as a formidable solo artist. Most recently, to commemorate I.O.I’s 10th debut anniversary in May of this year, the members reunited for a special release, the new song “Suddenly,” which impressively topped various music charts and shows, proving their enduring legacy and Chungha’s continued relevance.
