K-Pop superstar Nayeon of TWICE is making headlines not just for her chart-topping music, but for a massive real estate venture! The beloved idol has reportedly invested a staggering ₩9.50 billion KRW (approximately $6.88 million USD) in a prime piece of property in Seoul’s highly exclusive Cheongdam-dong neighborhood. This significant purchase highlights Nayeon’s growing success and her savvy eye for strategic investments.
A Premium Cheongdam-dong Location
According to real estate industry sources and public property registration records, Nayeon signed the purchase agreement for the land and building on May 3, with the official transfer of ownership completed on August 24. The news broke to the public on August 28. The property itself is situated in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, an area synonymous with luxury, high-end fashion, prestigious entertainment companies, and exclusive commercial ventures. The existing building, an older structure, features one basement level and two floors above ground, with a total floor area of around 218.87㎡ (2,356 square feet) after an expansion in 2010.
A Strategic Investment for Redevelopment
While the purchase price is substantial, industry experts suggest that the existing building might not have been the primary focus of Nayeon’s multimillion-dollar acquisition. Given its age, the property’s true value likely lies in its desirable location on a corner lot bordering two roads, making it exceptionally attractive for future redevelopment. This theory is further supported by a reported change in the property’s registered use, shifting from a combination of residential and neighborhood commercial space to entirely neighborhood commercial facilities. Real estate experts therefore believe Nayeon’s vision extends beyond simple rental income from the current structure, pointing towards a strategic investment in the land’s value and its potential for a new, purpose-built development.
A senior real estate expert explained that when the purchase price is calculated based on the land area, Nayeon paid approximately ₩155 million KRW (about $112,000 USD) per 3.3㎡, the traditional Korean measurement corresponding to one pyeong.
“Because the building is old, there is a strong possibility that the purchase was made with the value of the land and the potential for new construction in mind rather than the existing building. Luxury residential complexes, entertainment companies, galleries, and fashion and luxury-related offices are concentrated nearby. As it is a corner lot, it has relatively high potential for utilization.”
Property records additionally show a maximum secured claim of ₩10.2 billion KRW (about $7.39 million USD) registered against the property. It’s important to note that a maximum secured claim doesn’t necessarily represent the exact amount Nayeon borrowed, but rather indicates that financing secured against the property was established.
Nayeon’s Enduring Legacy
This purchase marks a particularly significant investment for the TWICE powerhouse. Nayeon debuted with TWICE under JYP Entertainment in 2015 and has since cemented her status as a top-tier K-Pop idol, enjoying over a decade of success both with her group and as a highly successful soloist. Her career achievements have evidently paved the way for such a substantial personal investment in one of Seoul’s most prestigious and expensive districts, where properties with redevelopment potential are consistently among the most valuable.
