Super Junior’s Heechul and Leeteuk, affectionately known as the 83z unit, recently gave fans an exclusive peek into the formation of their exciting new duo. On July 16, just three days after dropping their highly anticipated mini album ‘Promise,’ the two seasoned idols sat down on Heechul’s YouTube channel to chat about how it all came together, much to the delight of ELFs worldwide.
The Genesis of Super Junior-83z
Leeteuk, the group’s ever-reliable leader, shared that the spark for 83z ignited during discussions surrounding Super Junior’s world tour encore concerts. This isn’t just any unit; it marks a significant milestone as the first unit collaboration between the two 1983-born members in their incredible 21 years since debut. It’s a testament to their enduring friendship and musical chemistry.
Contrasting Dynamics: 83z vs. L.S.S.
Comparing 83z to his other successful unit, L.S.S. (with Shindong and Siwon), Leeteuk offered a fascinating insight into their distinct dynamics. “With L.S.S., Shindong pretty much does whatever he wants,” he explained, painting a picture of creative freedom. However, with 83z, the approach is different: “I’m supporting what Heechul wants.” He lightheartedly added, “If Siwon hears this, he’ll really get upset,” hinting at the playful rivalry and individual personalities within Super Junior. While L.S.S. demands meticulous planning, 83z thrives on keeping things natural, allowing their genuine synergy to shine through.
Group Support and ‘Promise’ Promotions
The enthusiasm for 83z isn’t limited to Heechul and Leeteuk. Heechul revealed that fellow Super Junior members Eunhyuk, Shindong, and Ryeowook were all incredibly supportive of the new venture. Shindong, known for his infectious energy, even repeatedly tried to get involved in the unit’s activities, showcasing the strong camaraderie within the group.
The mini album ‘Promise’ hit the airwaves on July 13, featuring a captivating lineup of six tracks. Since its release, 83z has been actively promoting their work, including a memorable joint stage performance of ‘ONSAEMIRO’ and a beautiful duet reworking of Heechul’s beloved ‘Sweet Dream’ on the same broadcast where they discussed their unit’s origins. This fresh unit promises exciting new sounds and showcases the timeless talent of Super Junior’s golden ’83 line.
