His dreams of becoming an idol materialized in May 2018, when he debuted as a member of the seven-member boy group Spectrum. Their debut album, “Be Born,” featured the title track “Light It Up,” marking the official start of what promised to be a bright and successful career. At their debut showcase, Dongyoon shared his aspirations, stating, “I’ve improved a lot through MIXNINE. I want to study composing diligently to write great songs with the members and help promote our team widely.” His dedication to his craft and his team was evident to all.

WYNN Entertainment, his agency at the time, delivered the tragic announcement through their official fan cafe, expressing profound sorrow: “The sudden tragedy has left the bereaved family, Spectrum members, and all staff deeply saddened as they mourn the loss.” While an autopsy was conducted to determine the exact cause of death, no specific details were ever publicly disclosed, and his funeral was held quietly and privately according to his family’s wishes.
