K-pop’s rising stars, NOWZ, have officially kicked off a new chapter, marking their highly anticipated return with the digital single “Achilles.” Released Wednesday, this track is a vibrant Gen Z reinterpretation of classic disco, arriving five months after their Japanese debut EP and an impactful 10 months since their last Korean release. The all-Korean quintet, comprising Hyeonbin, Yoon, Yeonwoo, Jinhyuk, and Siyun, debuted in April 2024 as NOWADAYS under Cube Entertainment, rebranding to NOWZ in 2025. As they step into their third year, the group has declared their intention to showcase a more mature and sensual sound, signaling a significant evolution in their artistry.
Ahead of the release, the members held a dynamic press showcase in Seoul, where they shared exciting updates and captivating behind-the-scenes stories about “Achilles.” Eldest member Hyeonbin emphasized the group’s dedication, stating, “We sharpened everything from our visuals to our stage performance for this comeback. We hope people look forward to it.”
“Zero Sexy”: Redefining Sensuality and Unveiling Love

The concept for “Achilles” was brilliantly summarized by Siyun with the catchy keyword, “zero sexy.” He elaborated, “Like a zero-sugar cola that tastes sweet without any sugar, we have gone back to our essential charm to present a fresh and healthy kind of sexiness.” This innovative approach perfectly encapsulates the song’s essence, which reinterprets 1980s funk and disco sounds with NOWZ’s unique sensibility, delving into the intoxicating pull of love at first sight and the subsequent confusion.
Siyun also shed light on the intriguing title. “Achilles carries the meaning of weakness,” he explained. “Inspired by what the mythological figure symbolizes, we interpreted it as meaning that even the strongest beings have a weak point, and that weakness is love. We chose the title to express the moment of being shaken and undone by one person.” He further noted the group’s thematic growth, moving from narratives of youthful challenges to exploring the complexities of love, demonstrating their artistic maturity.
Expanding Horizons: NOWZ’s Musical Evolution and Global Ambitions

NOWZ has consistently proven their versatility, showcasing a powerful rock sound with “EVERGLOW” from their first mini-album last year and high-energy EDM with “HomeRUN.” With “Achilles,” they are determined to add disco to their impressive repertoire. Hyeonbin highlighted the group’s unique perspective on the genre: “All of our members were born in the 2000s. We have a lot of interest in older music, and we thought five people born in the 2000s performing a 1980s-style song could show something new.” This blend of youthful energy and classic inspiration promises a fresh take on disco.
To celebrate “Achilles,” NOWZ has planned an exciting offline busking event at Coex Square in Seoul’s Gangnam District this Sunday at 3 p.m., where fans can enjoy live performances of the new track and other beloved songs. The group is also gearing up to amplify their global presence, with a confirmed appearance at the prestigious 2026 TMElive International Music Awards at Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong on August 22. Yeonwoo expressed their global ambitions, recalling their performance at Waterbomb Macao last year. “We want to keep showing off our physical charm, so we would love to appear at more water festivals, and we are hungry to show many different sides of ourselves musically. We hope to greet fans at a wide range of awards ceremonies and events going forward.” This marks an exciting period for NOWZ as they expand their reach and continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
