K-Pop fans and netizens alike were left absolutely furious after a recent incident involving a popular boy group member.
The artist in question drew widespread online criticism for an insensitive joke made about an impending typhoon. The controversy erupted amidst grave concerns over severe flooding in Southern China, with reports indicating a potential escalation due to the anticipated arrival of Super Typhoon Bavi this weekend. It was MODYSSEY member Suren‘s recent comment, made in response to a fan’s expressed concern about traveling to Shanghai, that quickly garnered widespread negative feedback and ignited the online storm.
Fan: Are you guys able to come to Shanghai on time, honestly?
Suren: It will be okay. The typhoon is the special effect for our entrance as we go there. It’s been arranged on purpose.
The original poster (OP) who initially shared Suren’s messages online made their anger abundantly clear, expressing profound disappointment.

I have no f*cking words.

Netizens were overwhelmingly disappointed and appalled that Suren would trivialise a natural disaster with a joke, especially given the serious humanitarian context. The comment section exploded with furious reactions.

Comments ranged from outright shock to accusations of insensitivity: “Wtf Suren, what’s wrong with you?” “Are we sure there’s nothing wrong with his brain?” “Joking about a natural disaster? Is he for real?” “His EQ has always been low. When he was an influencer, lots of people wanted nothing to do with him.” “Has he gone crazy? Making a joke out of this.” This incident puts MODYSSEY, a South Korean global-Chinese boy group formed through Mnet’s spin-off show Planet C: Home Race, under intense scrutiny during a crucial period. The group and its agency are yet to release a statement regarding the ongoing controversy.
