Lee Sung Kyung’s Heartwarming Donation to Flood Victims

A record-breaking deluge has caused extensive damage across Busan and South Gyeongsang Province, prompting actress Lee Sung Kyung to step forward to help flood victims recover their daily lives. Known for consistently donating to disaster relief efforts, including after wildfires and torrential rains, she has once again donated a substantial amount, giving 50 million KRW (approx. 35,413 USD) to support those affected.

The Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association announced on August 18 that Lee Sung Kyung donated 50 million KRW to help with recovery efforts in flood-damaged areas and support residents affected by the disaster. The donation will be used to support recovery efforts in flood-hit areas, including Geoje in South Gyeongsang Province and other parts of southern Korea, as well as help flood victims return to their normal lives.

A History of Philanthropy: Lee Sung Kyung’s Consistent Generosity

This is not the first time Lee Sung Kyung has donated following a natural disaster. In 2019, she donated 50 million KRW to support recovery efforts after the Gangwon wildfires. She also donated 100 million KRW (approx. 70,813 USD) to Hope Bridge following the torrential rains in 2022. After hearing about residents who had been affected by the sudden heavy rainfall, Lee Sung Kyung expressed her concern and hoped her donation would provide some assistance to those facing difficulties, including living in evacuation shelters. She also expressed her hope that affected residents would be able to safely return to their daily lives as soon as possible.

Devastating Floods Hit Southern Korea

Heavy rainfall has caused widespread damage across Busan and South Gyeongsang Province during the Liberation Day holiday weekend. According to figures from the South Gyeongsang Provincial Government, cumulative rainfall from August 15 through 6:30 a.m. on August 18 reached 944 mm in Geoje, 765.7 mm in Tongyeong, 496 mm in Haklim, Goseong, 474.5 mm in Seongu Dong, Sacheon, and 411.5 mm in Sangjuk, Namhae. On August 17, Geoje received 124.5 mm of rain in a single hour, while Tongyeong recorded 97.4 mm. Both areas experienced their highest one-hour rainfall since observations began.

On the big screen, Lee Sung Kyung appeared in films including ‘Love+Sling’ and ‘Miss & Mrs. Cops.’ From 2024 through last year, she also took on the role of Princess Jasmine in the musical ‘Aladdin,’ marking her debut on the musical stage. She won Best New Actress at the 10th Korean Musical Awards in 2026 for the production. Last year, she starred in JTBC’s ‘The Good Man,’ playing Kang Mi Young, a woman who dreams of becoming a singer.
