The Shadow of Burning Sun: A Scandal That Rocked K-Pop
The K-Pop world was irrevocably shaken in November 2018 when reports emerged of an assault at the Burning Sun, a high-profile Gangnam club once partly owned by former BIGBANG member Seungri. What began with a man, Kim Sang Kyo, allegedly being assaulted after intervening to help a woman being sexually harassed, quickly spiraled into a sprawling investigation. This probe unearthed a disturbing network of crimes linked to Burning Sun and Seungri, exposing widespread gambling, drug distribution, and sexual assault that sent shockwaves across South Korea and the global K-Pop community.
Unveiling Dark Secrets: Group Chats and Celebrity Downfalls
One of the most heinous revelations from the ongoing investigation was the discovery of vile group chats. These private conversations among celebrities and industry figures were used to share illegally taken sex videos, often filmed without consent. The impact was immediate and severe, leading to charges and imprisonment for several high-profile individuals, while others saw their careers and public image utterly decimated.
Among those embroiled in this shocking scandal was Lee Jonghyun, a beloved member of the band CNBLUE.

Lee Jonghyun’s Departure and Years of Silence
Lee Jonghyun initially denied any involvement, attempting to distance himself from the accusations. However, the evidence proved undeniable, and he ultimately admitted to viewing the illicitly filmed videos that were sent to him by Jung Joon Young, another celebrity deeply implicated in the scandal. The fallout from this, coupled with a separate scandal in 2019 involving allegedly inappropriate messages sent to a YouTuber, led to Jonghyun’s departure from CNBLUE, a move that left many fans heartbroken and disillusioned.
Following his exit from the group, there had been an almost complete radio silence from the former idol. For years, Lee Jonghyun seemed to have simply vanished from the public eye, leaving fans to wonder about his fate and future.
A Surprising Return: Lee Jonghyun’s New Path
Then, on August 10, a surprising update appeared on Jonghyun’s Instagram account. The post featured several photos offering a glimpse into his current life, accompanied by a caption. In this caption, he not only explained his unexpected return to social media but also openly shared the exciting news of his new career path, marking a significant turning point after years of absence.
This is Lee Jong Hyun.
I left this account inactive for eight years. The account was hacked, and I have requested that the ID and bio be changed, but the changes are still pending. There were several years when I turned my back on the world. After that, I learned how to work and live again. For the past eight years, although it’s been on a small scale, I’ve found beauty-related marketing interesting and have been working professionally in the field. This is what my days look like these days.
I attend meetings, open and examine products, and think about how I can do things better. I leave home in the morning and come back at night. I’ve come to realize how difficult it is to simply live an ordinary life and go to work every day. I think everyone is truly amazing.
From now on, as Lee Jong Hyun, the person, I want to communicate with more people and continue living my life.
Have a happy day!
— Jonghyun
