K-Pop Shaken: ONE HUNDRED CEO Cha Ga Won Arrested For Fraud

The K-Pop world is buzzing with major news as Cha Ga Won, the CEO of prominent K-entertainment company ONE HUNDRED, has been arrested on significant fraud charges. The development sends ripples through the industry, affecting a company known for managing diverse talent and intellectual property, and raising immediate questions about the implications for artists and operations.

Arrest Warrant Issued for ONE HUNDRED CEO

Reports confirm that on August 3 (KST), the Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for CEO Cha Ga Won. The Allegations: IP Fraud and Financial Deception

Cha Ga Won stands accused of proposing a substantial business venture to a company known as Knowmerce Corp. This venture allegedly leveraged the valuable intellectual property (IP) of the artists under ONE HUNDRED’s agency. According to the investigation, Cha signed a contract and received a hefty advance payment of ₩24.2 billion KRW (approximately $16.9 million USD) but subsequently failed to fulfill her obligations and carry out the proposed business.

Further investigation revealed the full extent of the alleged fraud, which totals around ₩30.0 billion KRW (approximately $21.0 million USD). This larger sum includes an additional ₩5.40 billion KRW (about $3.78 million USD) deposit CEO Cha reportedly received from an acquaintance. This deposit was obtained under the pretext of entering into a “jeonse” contract—a common real estate agreement in Korea—which she then allegedly failed to honor, adding another layer to the serious financial accusations.

Persistent Investigation Leads to Arrest

The journey to this arrest has been a persistent one for authorities. The Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, which spearheaded the case, had previously sought an arrest warrant for CEO Cha from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office not once, but twice in June of last year. Both initial requests, however, were rejected.

Undeterred, the police filed a third request for an arrest warrant just last month. This time, a collaborative approach was adopted, with police working closely with the prosecution on additional investigative measures. These included meticulously tracking CEO Cha’s accounts and conducting deeper analysis of the various contractual relationships involved. This intensified scrutiny ultimately led to the Human Rights Protection Department of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office summoning CEO Cha for a pre-arrest warrant interview on July 27. Following this interview, an arrest warrant was officially requested the very next day. During her interview, Cha Ga Won reportedly maintained that she would have been able to repay all advance payments and fulfill other obligations had the business ultimately proceeded as planned.

Given that Cha Ga Won’s arrest warrant specifically cited a risk of evidence destruction, she is expected to remain in detention until the necessary investigations are completed, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

Past Controversies Surface Amidst Arrest

This isn’t CEO Cha Ga Won’s first time in the spotlight for controversial reasons. In recent months, her name has been linked to multiple high-profile controversies, including widely discussed dating rumors with EXO’s Baekhyun, which garnered significant attention from fans globally. Additionally, she faced allegations related to popular actor and singer Lee Sung Gi’s luxury villa, further adding to her public profile as a figure often embroiled in scandal.

The arrest of ONE HUNDRED’s CEO marks a significant moment for the K-Pop industry, raising questions about financial transparency and management practices within entertainment agencies. Fans and industry observers will be closely watching as the investigation unfolds.
