In unfortunate news for K-Pop and J-Pop fans, Japanese boy group JO1 has its highly anticipated Seoul concerts slated for next month. The decision, announced by agency Lapone Entertainment on Monday, comes as a significant blow to fans eager to see the popular group perform in the South Korean capital.
Safety First: The Reason Behind the Cancellation
Lapone Entertainment issued an apology to fans, emphasizing that the cancellation was a precautionary measure. The agency stated that it chose to cancel the concerts out of caution to prioritize the safety of and the artists. This paramount concern for well-being ultimately led to the difficult decision to pull the plug on the September dates. The health and security of everyone involved is clearly the top priority for JO1’s management.
Venue and Ongoing Protests
The nine-member act was originally scheduled to perform on at the Ticketlink Live Arena in Songpa-gu. However, the chosen venue’s surrounding area has faced ongoing issues, making the concerts impractical. The area has been for almost two months by demonstrators protesting a ballot shortage during the June 3 local elections, creating an unpredictable and potentially unsafe environment for a large-scale event. This sustained disruption has made it unfeasible to proceed with the planned concerts.
JO1’s Journey: From Debut to Current Lineup
JO1, formed through an audition show, burst onto the scene in 2020 with 11 members. The group quickly gained a dedicated fanbase with their energetic performances and catchy tracks, establishing themselves as a force in the J-Pop landscape. However, their journey hasn’t been without challenges, and the lineup has seen changes over the years. left the team in May after a 1.5-year hiatus, following rumors that he had cheated on his girlfriend. Additionally, Tsurubo Shion was ejected last year for suspected illegal online gambling. Despite these past hurdles, the current nine-member JO1 continues to be a prominent figure, making this Seoul concert cancellation all the more disappointing for their dedicated international fanbase, especially those in South Korea.
