Hwang Jung Min’s agency, SEM Company, has issued a crucial statement addressing the online frenzy surrounding the actor’s ongoing legal dispute, vehemently refuting widespread speculation that has led to the wrongful identification and harassment of an innocent individual.
Agency Condemns Harassment of Innocent Fan
On July 31 KST, SEM Company confirmed a disturbing trend of abusive comments, insults, and unverified rumors targeting an ordinary fan. The agency unequivocally stated that this individual has absolutely no connection to the legal case involving Hwang Jung Min.
“The individual currently being discussed online is simply a fan of Hwang Jung Min and is not the alleged stalker referenced in ongoing legal proceedings,” SEM Company clarified, aiming to dispel the harmful misinformation. “The related legal process is currently underway, and groundless speculation and personal attacks directed at an unverified individual can cause serious harm to an innocent person.”
The agency further issued a stern warning to internet users, urging them to immediately cease posting speculative comments. SEM Company emphasized its resolve to take firm legal action, including potential lawsuits, against anyone continuing to spread malicious rumors or defamatory content.
Details of the Ongoing Legal Dispute
This urgent clarification comes amid a complex legal battle involving Hwang Jung Min and an individual identified only as “A.” Hwang Jung Min’s representatives maintain that “A” committed stalking offenses, while “A” counters that their relationship was based on mutual interaction. These conflicting claims are now being deliberated through legal proceedings.
Earlier this week, SEM Company revealed that Hwang Jung Min had filed a criminal complaint against the alleged stalker. Subsequently, the court imposed temporary restraining measures on the suspect on three separate occasions. A summary order was later issued, imposing a 3 million KRW (approximately $2,100 USD) fine, after the court recognized the stalking charge.
However, “A” has formally objected to this summary order and has requested a full formal trial. Furthermore, “A” has initiated a 200 million KRW (approximately $139,000 USD) civil damages lawsuit against Hwang Jung Min, signaling a deepening of the legal confrontation.
Online Speculation and Dispatch Report
The intensity of online speculation surged following a July 30 report by Dispatch. This report detailed that “A” had initially been a devoted fan of the actor and that the two had met three times between 2023 and 2024. The report also explicitly stated that there had been no physical relationship between them. The subsequent online discussions led to the circulation of personal information belonging to unrelated individuals, heightening the urgency for SEM Company’s intervention.
SEM Company affirmed that it would continue to closely monitor the situation to prevent any further harm to innocent people caught in the crossfire of online speculation.
