Actress Hwang Jung Eum is once again facing a wave of criticism after sharing another glimpse into her everyday life. And this time, netizens seem to have something to say about practically everything.
On August 12, Hwang Jung Eum uploaded a new video to her YouTube channel documenting an ordinary day at home, including preparing galbi-jjim and kkakdugi and eating with the production staff. The seemingly innocuous vlog was part of Hwang Jung Eum’s gradual return to public activities following her embezzlement case.
The Road Back: Embezzlement and Return to Public Eye
In September 2025, the actress was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for four years, after being convicted of embezzling approximately ₩4.30 billion KRW (about $3.04 million USD) from an agency she wholly owned. She had reportedly used around ₩4.20 billion KRW (about $2.96 million USD) of the money for cryptocurrency investments. Hwang later repaid the funds, and the sentence became final after she chose not to appeal.
She returned to YouTube in May 2026 after roughly eight months away from the public eye, acknowledging that she had spent the previous year dealing with the fallout from the controversy. Her newest attempt at showing her everyday life, however, has generated another noticeably critical response, proving that her return to normalcy might be a tougher climb than anticipated.
From Pets to Plate: Every Detail Under Scrutiny
One particular scene showed Hwang Jung Eum’s two dogs resting in the yard adjoining her kitchen while she cooked and ate. With Korea experiencing extremely hot summer weather, some viewers became concerned that the dogs were being kept outdoors despite the heat.

The criticism became significant enough to generate Korean media coverage, although other viewers defended Hwang and argued that having access to a spacious yard was not inherently harmful. Hwang had also previously revealed that both dogs were rescued from possible euthanasia and explained that she allows them to roam freely in the yard because they become distressed when confined.
But the dogs were far from the only thing viewers picked apart. Hwang’s interactions with her children also drew attention. When one of her sons apparently opened ramen despite being told not to, viewers criticized what they perceived as a lack of discipline. Even the actress’s table manners became a subject of complaints. Some viewers took issue with Hwang using her own spoon when eating from shared dishes, while another criticized the sounds she made while eating. Then came the house itself. Viewers noted how “messy” Hwang’s place seemed.

Netizen Reactions: More Than Just Minor Gripes
The comment section exploded with a range of observations, some deeply concerning, others seemingly trivial.
“That look Wang Sik is giving his mom… I’ve seen that expression a lot on My Golden Kids… 😮” “She said no ramen, but look at him opening it anyway.” “You’re not keeping the dogs outside all day in this heat, right??” “Her oldest son is the spitting image of his dad.” “His mom tells him not to do it, and he immediately does it right in front of her… Wow. I couldn’t even imagine doing that.” “Jung Eum, I think you really need to teach your kids some manners. Saying ‘Annyeong?’ to adults… You should teach them basic etiquette. Otherwise, when boys get older, they can end up treating their mom disrespectfully too.” “Laying low really is the answer.” “Wow… her mentality is seriously something else.” Taken individually, the criticisms ranged from relatively serious concerns about the dogs to extremely minor observations about table manners and housekeeping. Taken together, however, the comment section appeared to reflect a larger problem Hwang Jung Eum continues to face: Netizens simply do not seem ready to watch her return to carefree celebrity content. Several comments abandoned criticism of anything actually happening in the video altogether and instead questioned why she was uploading content again.

“She should at least lie low for a while…” “Using your own spoon in kimchi everyone is sharing… The table manners…” “It’s food everyone is sharing, but you’re eating from this dish and that dish with the spoon you were already using. It would be better to put some on your own plate first.” “Looks like you need to tidy up the house… It’s messy. 😢” “So you’re the type who smacks/makes noise when you eat. 😢” “No laying low at all??” “Noona, crypto will rise again. This time for real. Let’s stick to altcoins, Bitcoin, and Ethereum.” “I guess the dogs aren’t allowed inside the house. They’re only outside.” While Hwang Jung Eum may be back to sharing her normal life, her audience clearly isn’t ready to treat her like everything is back to normal, so it seems.
