The scent of expensive cologne and old money hung heavy in the air of the opulent ballroom. My target, a notoriously elusive arms dealer, was mingling by the caviar station. My earpiece crackled, “Target acquired, Agent. Proceed with extraction. Remember, stealth is paramount.”
Stealth. Right. I shot a side-eye at my “team.” SEVENTEEN’s Hoshi was already practicing a subtle, yet undeniably dramatic, finger-point routine behind a potted palm. Across the room, TWICE’s Sana had just managed to trip over her own foot, sending a waiter’s tray of champagne flutes cascading onto a bewildered socialite. This was going to be a long night.

The Mission Briefing: Chaos Incoming
My mission was clear: retrieve the microchip from the dealer’s pocket. My “backup,” however, was a masterclass in accidental espionage. Hoshi, renowned for his fierce stage presence and “tiger power,” had taken the concept of “blending in” to mean “performing a one-man show of extreme concentration.” He was supposed to be my distraction, but he was becoming the main attraction.
Undercover, Sort Of
“Agent, Hoshi is doing a full body wave by the bar,” my handler’s voice hissed. I could already see it. He’d started with a casual lean, morphed into an almost imperceptible shoulder shimmy, and was now full-on, silently, choreographing an entire segment of what looked suspiciously like a `HOME;RUN` dance break. His eyes, usually sharp and charismatic, were now wide with an almost dangerous level of theatrical commitment. He even mimed reaching for a mic.
“Hoshi, for the love of all that is holy, just pretend to be interested in the art,” I muttered into my hidden comms, my teeth grinding.
Before I could properly rein in my overly enthusiastic performer, a shriek pierced the polite hum of conversation. Sana, bless her heart, had tried to gracefully navigate a crowded section, but her natural clumsiness had chosen the worst possible moment. She’d somehow entangled herself with a passing waiter, sending a tray of exotic cocktails (definitely not `Alcohol-Free`) flying. The resultant splash coated a small, menacing group of bodyguards in various fruity concoctions. Her wide-eyed apology, complete with a dramatic bow, only drew more attention.
“Sana, abort, abort! Just… stand still!” I pleaded internally, my professional facade cracking. She, of course, chose that moment to accidentally bump into a table, sending a priceless vase teetering. The bodyguards, now sticky and annoyed, were glaring directly at our section. Mission compromised.
Agent Under Fire: Juggling Villains and Idols
“They’re onto us, Agent! Extract the target now!”
The arms dealer, sensing the shift in atmosphere, started to make his exit. This was my chance. I lunged, dodging a surprisingly swift punch from a bodyguard. My training kicked in. A rapid succession of blocks and counter-attacks followed. One guy went down with a well-placed elbow, another stumbled after a kick to the shin. But it wasn’t just them I had to worry about.
“Ooh, an actual fight!” Hoshi whispered, suddenly energized, trying to mimic my moves a few feet away, almost getting in the way of a swinging fist. “Is this like an action movie? Should I do a slow-mo spin?”
“NO, HOSHI! GET OUT OF THE WAY!” I growled, parrying a knife strike and subtly pushing him behind a pillar.
Meanwhile, Sana, flustered by the sudden brawl, was attempting to hide behind a ridiculously small topiary, her bright pink dress making her anything but inconspicuous. “Oh no, did I start this? I’m so sorry!” she wailed, just as a third bodyguard spotted her, distracted by her genuine distress.
I took advantage, delivering a swift takedown. The microchip was almost within reach, the arms dealer fumbling for his own escape. I grappled with him, a quick maneuver, and the chip was in my hand. Success!
Mission Accomplished? Barely.
We made our escape amidst the pandemonium, leaving a trail of spilled drinks, bewildered socialites, and very confused bodyguards. Back at the safe house, I stared at the microchip, a triumphant, yet utterly exhausted, sigh escaping me.
“Agent, excellent work on the extraction,” my handler commended over the comms. “Though, the collateral damage reports are… extensive.”
Hoshi, completely oblivious to my near-breakdown, was already reviewing footage on his phone. “Did you see my block? I think I have potential for a stunt double! And Sana, your ‘distressed damsel’ act was phenomenal, completely threw them off!”
Sana, still looking slightly guilty, piped up, “I really am sorry about the champagne, though. And the vase. Was it important?”
I just pinched the bridge of my nose, an internal scream echoing in my mind. The mission was accomplished, yes. But I vowed then and there: next time, I’m working solo. Or maybe with a less, shall we say, enthusiastic K-Pop idol duo. They might be global superstars, but as field agents? They’re a beautiful, chaotic nightmare.
