This update, coming directly from Mina’s parents, confirmed that they had successfully brought her back to Japan. A Community Mourns and Reflects
Our deepest condolences go out to Mina’s family, friends, and the countless fans whose lives she touched. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder for everyone in the K-Pop community to foster a supportive and empathetic environment, prioritizing mental health and speaking out against any form of online harassment.
We are Mina’s family. We sincerely apologize for causing concern and distress to everyone.
On August 9, we were finally able to bring our daughter home. That day was her 26th birthday.
It breaks our hearts that we were unable to keep our promise to celebrate her birthday together.
Our daughter was deeply hurt by critical messages directed at her on social media. She was made to feel that her very right to live was being denied, and ultimately, she brought her life to an end. Can you imagine the person you love suddenly disappearing right before your eyes?
We sincerely hope that more people will take the time to think about how their words, photos, videos, and everything else they put out into the world may be received by others.
Finally, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to all of our daughter’s friends who were close to her, everyone who supported and encouraged her, and especially the friends who helped our family during this difficult time.
To my Korean oppas and unnies: Thank you for loving me, even if it was only for a short time. I had so much fun, friends! Let’s meet again.
