ENHYPEN Unveils the Power of Storytelling in K-Pop & ‘DARK MOON’ Universe
ENHYPEN has consistently set themselves apart with their commitment to immersive storytelling, and the group recently shared insights into how their ever-expanding ‘DARK MOON’ universe deepens their connection with ENGENE. Speaking with reporters in San Diego on July 24, the members highlighted the crucial role narrative plays in K-Pop.
“Storytelling plays a huge role in K-pop,” Jay shared. “When people become fans of something, they naturally want to explore more related content. Our fans can enjoy not only our music, but also our performances, videos and additional content like ‘DARK MOON’. I think that’s what makes our group special.”
Immersing ENGENE: The ‘DARK MOON’ Difference
Unlike many groups that subtly hint at fictional worlds, ENHYPEN has fully embraced and expanded their unique vampire-themed storyline since 2022 through the ‘DARK MOON’ webtoon and web novel series. Jake explained how this continuous narrative helps fans dive deeper into their music. “We’ve been building this story since our debut, and it’s reflected in our album lyrics as well,” he said. “I think that helps fans become more invested. They enjoy both ‘DARK MOON’ and ENHYPEN together.”

From Members’ Minds to Milestones: ‘DARK MOON’ Success
What’s even more fascinating is the members’ active involvement in shaping this universe. Jay revealed that the creative team regularly consults the group, incorporating their personal thoughts, emotions, and experiences into both ‘DARK MOON’ and ENHYPEN’s music videos, ensuring an authentic connection.
The ‘DARK MOON’ franchise itself is a massive success, with ‘DARK MOON: The Blood Altar’ surpassing 200 million cumulative views and even being adapted into an animated series. This success brought ENHYPEN to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, a testament to the story’s broad appeal. Jungwon expressed his surprise at discovering many Comic-Con visitors saw ‘DARK MOON’ as a standalone animated series, rather than just an extension of idol content. “I realized there are a lot of people who see ‘DARK MOON’ as its own animation rather than just idol content,” he noted, “That was really surprising.”
Live-Action Dreams and Vampire Nights
When asked about a potential live-action drama adaptation, Sunoo playfully dismissed the idea of major acting roles, stating, “I don’t think we’re good enough at acting to be cast.” However, he added, “But we’d definitely be open to making a cameo,” leaving fans hopeful for future appearances.
Following the interview, ENHYPEN treated 650 lottery-selected fans to a special ‘DARK MOON Blood Night’ event at the House of Blues San Diego. Attendees arrived in vampire-inspired attire, and the group performed six songs deeply connected to their fictional universe, including fan favorites like ‘Bite Me’, ‘Karma’, and ‘Criminal Love’, truly bringing the ‘DARK MOON’ world to life for their dedicated ENGENE.
