ASTRO‘s Cha Eun Woo is currently serving in the military, but his latest appearance has sparked a wave of harsh reactions from Korean netizens, raising eyebrows across online communities.

Shocking Photos Spark Debate
A recent post on the popular Korean online forum Pann titled “Shocking Recent Photos Of Cha Eunwoo’s Face” quickly drew significant attention, becoming a hot topic among K-Pop fans and the general public alike.

The post, featuring pictures from his time as a soldier, focused intently on the singer and actor’s latest appearance, sparking a flurry of comments.

Rather than universally praising his famously impeccable visuals, several commenters were surprisingly critical, scrutinizing his facial expressions and overall appearance. The discussion quickly turned sour, with many expressing disappointment and harsh judgments.
Tax Controversy Resurfaces
The criticism was not limited to his physical appearance, however. Some of the comments also controversially brought up Cha Eun Woo’s tax controversy, a major issue that became widely known earlier this year and continues to shadow his public image.
The acclaimed actor-idol was reportedly investigated by the National Tax Service over additional taxes related to income that had not been properly reported, leading to significant public scrutiny. He was subsequently ordered to pay additional taxes and filed an appeal with the Tax Tribunal, vehemently arguing that the tax assessment was unfair.
The tax dispute was eventually resolved, with reports stating that Cha Eun Woo paid the additional taxes while steadfastly maintaining his position regarding the assessment’s fairness. Despite its resolution, the controversy has continued to follow him online like a persistent shadow. Korean netizens, in particular, consistently bring it up whenever his name trends or new content related to him appears.

Netizens Hold Nothing Back
This recent incident saw the resurfacing of these old wounds, with netizens leaving scathing remarks: “In the end, the tax evader Cha, the very definition of a pyododok (someone who puts on a false front), filed an appeal with the Tax Tribunal, claiming that the National Tax Service’s tax assessment was unfair. Tsk tsk.” Another comment declared, “He fell from grace because of tax evasion.” A particularly critical remark stated, “You can really see that he has no star quality lol. People who have a lot of natural charisma and are good at using their facial expressions can still make even exaggerated expressions look natural, but even that looks awkward on him…” The negativity reached an intense level with one netizen remarking, “I hoped the other male idols wouldn’t come back from the military looking worse, but I actually hope this guy does.”
