East Rutherford, New Jersey – The world witnessed a truly iconic moment in sports and music history on July 19, as global K-pop superstars BTS delivered an electrifying performance at the first-ever World Cup final half-time show. Sharing the stage with music legends Madonna, Justin Bieber, and Shakira, the septet brought their signature energy to a Super Bowl-style spectacle that left fans breathless.
Global Icons Ignite World Cup Halftime
The high-energy musical medley kicked off with the undisputed Queen of Pop, Madonna. Emerging from the tunnels of New York New Jersey Stadium in a dune buggy driven by Brazilian football greats Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, Madonna ignited the crowd with her classic single “Music,” setting an incredibly high bar for the performances to follow. This grand entrance was one of several American entertainment elements integrated into this year’s tournament, adding a dazzling new dimension to the World Cup experience.
BTS Delivers Electrifying “Dynamite” Performance
Following Madonna’s powerful opening, K-pop sensation BTS took to the stage. Clad in striking black-and-red outfits, the group thrilled fans with a vibrant and upbeat rendition of their global hit, “Dynamite.” Their flawless choreography and powerful stage presence showcased why they are at the forefront of the K-pop wave, delivering a moment that will surely be replayed by ARMYs worldwide.
More Superstars Join the Spectacle
Next up, American actors Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, reprising their roles as the beloved coaches from the TV show Ted Lasso, introduced pop icon Justin Bieber. Bieber slowed the tempo, captivating the audience with an acoustic performance of “Everything Hallelujah,” thoughtfully changing the song’s final words to “World Cup Hallelujah” for the special occasion.

Colombian singer Shakira and Nigeria’s Burna Boy then joined forces for “Dai Dai,” the highly anticipated official song of the 2026 World Cup, adding another layer of global flavor to the spectacular event.
Halftime Show Length Sparks Debate
Ahead of the match, the half-time show had drawn significant criticism for deviating from the traditional 15-minute interval. This move sparked debate among sports purists and fans alike.

International Laws of the Game explicitly state that players are entitled to a half-time interval “not exceeding 15 minutes.” However, tournament regulations, while mentioning a 15-minute break, did not explicitly prohibit exceeding that time. The musical performances themselves clocked in at an impressive 11 minutes, but the entire break ultimately extended to approximately 27 minutes due to the extensive movement of equipment to and from the pitch by workers. Despite the logistical challenges and minor controversy, the star-studded musical showcase delivered an unforgettable entertainment experience, particularly for K-pop fans who witnessed BTS shine on one of the world’s biggest stages.
