BTS’s “Arirang” Tour: Governments Roll Out Red Carpet!

South Korean boy group BTS isn’t just performing to enthusiastic crowds on their ongoing “Arirang” world tour across North America – they’re inspiring local governments to roll out the red carpet with a series of high-profile official tributes. It’s a testament to the group’s unparalleled global influence and the sheer devotion of their ARMY!

North American Cities Embrace the Global Phenomenon

Toronto is leading the charge with an unprecedented show of admiration. The Toronto City Council has officially approved a plan to temporarily co-name a significant stretch of Yonge Street in the city’s North York district as “BTS Boulevard.” This special designation will be in effect from August 21 to September 23, perfectly coinciding with the group’s much-anticipated concerts there on August 22-23. Not stopping there, the council also plans to ask the city to proclaim those concert dates as “BTS Weekend,” ensuring the entire city celebrates their presence.

A BigHit Music official confirmed that Toronto had proactively contacted the agency, seeking approval for the proper use of BTS’s intellectual property in connection with both the street naming and the weekend proclamation. This level of official engagement highlights the respect and recognition BTS commands globally.

As the “Arirang” tour sweeps through North America, following a successful European leg in cities like London, Paris, and Munich, the excitement is palpable. BTS is scheduled to electrify audiences at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on August 10 and 11, AT&T Stadium in Arlington on August 15 and 16, before heading to Rogers Stadium in Toronto on August 22 and 23.

The warm welcome extends beyond city councils. Maryland Governor Wes Moore, whose state includes Baltimore, personally welcomed the global superstars in a video posted to social media. “Seven guys with one mission – bringing the world together and transcending cultural, geographical and language barriers. That’s pretty dope!” Moore exclaimed. He made sure to individually name each beloved member – RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook – before passionately declaring, “Welcome to Baltimore, y’all. And to every member of the BTS ARMY: let’s make some noise!” The video even included Korean subtitles, further showcasing the thoughtfulness of the gesture.

A Tour of Unprecedented Global Recognition

The “Arirang” world tour, which began its monumental journey at Goyang Stadium in the northwestern suburbs of Seoul in April, marks a highly anticipated return. This tour is especially significant as it follows a hiatus of more than three years from group activities, during which all seven members honorably completed their mandatory military service in South Korea. Their return to the global stage has been nothing short of triumphant.

This isn’t the first time BTS has received such high-level official recognition. Their impact is truly global, transcending continents and political borders. In Mexico City, then-President Claudia Sheinbaum presented commemorative plaques directly to the members. French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife were famously in attendance at one of their Paris concerts, demonstrating the group’s appeal across all echelons of society. Even El Paso County, Texas, joined the ranks of admirers, presenting BTS with an “Estimado Amigo” (Dear Friend) award and proclaiming the day of the group’s concert as “El Paso BTS Weekend.”

From temporary street namings to gubernatorial video welcomes and presidential accolades, BTS continues to prove they are more than just a K-Pop group. They are cultural ambassadors, uniting fans and governments worldwide with their powerful music, inspiring messages, and groundbreaking artistry. The “Arirang” tour is truly a historic journey, solidifying their legacy as global icons.
