Lisa Addresses Anniversary Disappointment
BLACKPINK member Lisa has expressed her apologies to fans over the controversy surrounding the group’s 10th anniversary celebration, becoming the third member to directly address the issue following Jisoo and Rosé.
On August 14 KST, Lisa took to a fan communication platform to address the discussions that have continued online following BLACKPINK’s anniversary event.
“There have been a lot of conversations going around online,” Lisa wrote. “The situation makes me so sad, and I’m really sorry that things turned out this way.” She continued, “I can’t even imagine how upset you must have been. I felt the same way. It should have been a special moment and a time of celebration for all of us.”
Lisa stressed that her message was not intended to defend or justify what happened. “I’m not writing this to justify anything or argue my side,” she said. “I just want to cherish the love and bond we’ve shared together. I love you, BLINK, and thank you for always staying by our side.”
Understanding the 10th Anniversary Controversy
BLACKPINK, which debuted on August 8, 2016, celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. However, dissatisfaction emerged among some fans in the lead-up to the milestone over what they viewed as a lack of anniversary activities. Just two days before the anniversary, a small-scale Meet & Greet event for 40 selected fans was announced. Speculation also circulated over whether some members, including Rosé and Lisa, would attend.
All four members ultimately participated in the event, which included an approximately 11-minute livestream and an in-person Meet & Greet. However, further criticism followed after details of gifts provided to attendees circulated online, with some fans expressing disappointment over what they considered insufficient preparations for the group’s 10th anniversary. A video appearing to show Jisoo in tears as she left the event also spread through online communities, drawing further attention to the controversy.
Jisoo and Rosé Share Their Feelings
Jisoo also previously spoke at length about the situation, explaining that it had been difficult for the members to determine what they could and should say. She emphasized that all four members deeply love and cherish their fans while also addressing speculation surrounding her tears. “I’m human too. I’m not a robot,” Jisoo said, asking fans not to attach multiple meanings to her emotional reaction. She said she instead wanted to remember the tears as the result of many emotions coming together after spending 10 years with BLACKPINK and BLINKs. Jisoo also expressed hope that the anniversary would no longer be overshadowed by negative speculation, acknowledging that fans had already been left disappointed by what was meant to be a celebratory milestone.
Rosé similarly apologized through an official channel, saying she had also looked forward to the 10th anniversary and felt disappointed by how the occasion unfolded. Rosé emphasized that the decade she has spent growing alongside fans holds enormous meaning to her and expressed gratitude for the relationship BLACKPINK and BLINKs have built through years of mutual love and support.
Jennie’s Message of Love and Gratitude
Jennie, meanwhile, shared photos capturing affectionate moments between all four BLACKPINK members and delivered a handwritten message of gratitude to fans. She reflected that living as “Jennie” alongside BLINKs had helped her better understand and love herself, thanking fans for loving, trusting, and walking alongside her for the past 10 years.
BLACKPINK Members Unite in Fan Communication
With Lisa now adding her own message, the members have continued to personally communicate their feelings to fans following a 10th anniversary celebration that was intended to mark a milestone for BLACKPINK and BLINKs.
