Big Bang Blasts Off: K-Pop Icons Appointed KASA Honorary Ambassadors
K-Pop powerhouse Big Bang is making history, extending their influence far beyond the music charts into the final frontier. The iconic group has been appointed as the inaugural honorary ambassadors for the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA), becoming the first artists ever to represent the agency since its launch in 2024. This groundbreaking partnership firmly establishes Big Bang as cultural pioneers, bridging the worlds of entertainment and scientific exploration.
A Cosmic Connection: Big Bang’s 20th Anniversary & KASA
According to an official statement from YG Entertainment on Friday, Big Bang will play a pivotal role in championing Korea’s ambitious space programs and major aerospace initiatives. Their mission is to act as a vital link, connecting KASA with the public and fostering widespread engagement. KASA underscored this decision through a press release, also issued by YG, stating, “The Korea AeroSpace Administration appointed Big Bang to help engage the public in the country’s new journey in aerospace.” The agency further expressed its aspiration: “We hope to expand public interest and participation in Korea’s space program through various outreach activities with the group.” This collaboration arrives as Big Bang prepares for a monumental year, celebrating their 20th anniversary with a theme perfectly aligned with their new role.
The group’s much-anticipated upcoming world tour, aptly titled “XX: Cosmos,” shares its cosmic concept with Big Bang’s very name, which inherently refers to the origin of the universe. This synergy creates a truly fitting backdrop for their ambassadorship.
“Dream Capsule”: Fans Send Messages to the Stars
As part of their official duties, Big Bang will actively participate in KASA’s innovative public engagement campaign, “Dream Capsule.” This initiative invites members of the public to submit heartfelt messages detailing their dreams and aspirations related to space exploration. To add a unique, fan-centric element commemorating their debut anniversary, Big Bang also launched a dedicated microsite on Friday. On this special platform, fans can leave personal messages for the group and share cherished memories associated with Big Bang, creating a direct connection between their idols and the cosmos.
The submissions gathered through the “Dream Capsule” campaign are destined for an extraordinary journey. KASA revealed that these messages will be converted into a unique code, drawing inspiration from the historic Arecibo Message — a 1974 binary-encoded radio transmission that carried fundamental information about humanity and Earth into space. This encoded data will then be loaded onto the fifth launch of South Korea’s Nuri rocket, slated for transmission into the vast expanse of space. YG Entertainment highlighted that this campaign not only offers fans an unparalleled opportunity to participate but also aims to ignite broader public interest in Korea’s rapidly growing aerospace ambitions.
The Return: New Music & “XX: Cosmos” World Tour
Beyond their cosmic ambassador duties, Big Bang is gearing up for a highly anticipated musical comeback. The group is scheduled to release their new digital single, “Biiig,” on August 19th. This track marks their first new music since April 2022 and perfectly coincides with the 20th anniversary of their debut. Following the single’s release, Big Bang will officially kick off their “XX: Cosmos” world tour with three spectacular concerts in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, from August 21st to 23rd. The tour will then embark on an extensive journey, taking their cosmic experience to 19 cities across North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia, promising an unforgettable experience for VIPs (Big Bang’s fandom) worldwide.
