Harisu’s Defender: Ahn Sun Young’s Fierce Loyalty Revealed
A heartwarming and fierce tale of loyalty between two K-Pop industry veterans, Harisu and Ahn Sun Young, has recently resurfaced, revealing a powerful moment where Ahn Sun Young fiercely defended her transgender colleague from a rude, transphobic joke.
The Shocking Revelation from a Chuseok Special
The incident came to light on August 7th, during a YouTube video titled “Honest confession from peak scandal to divorce and gender reassignment surgery review! Please stop baseless rumors.” In this candid discussion, pioneering transgender celebrity Harisu appeared as a guest alongside her close friend, broadcaster Ahn Sun Young, sharing intimate stories from their long careers.
Harisu recounted a particularly memorable incident from a past broadcast, a Chuseok special filming. She recalled, “We were filming a Chuseok special. A male comedian I was close to said, ‘Has Harisu been to the military?’”
Ahn Sun Young’s Unwavering Stand
At the time, Harisu was situated too far away to hear the insensitive remark directly. However, Ahn Sun Young, who was standing nearby, heard it clearly and immediately felt a surge of anger on Harisu’s behalf. Harisu later shared her gratitude, saying, “Sun Young heard that and said, ‘You shouldn’t say things like that.’ I was grateful when I heard about it later.”
Harisu reflected on the comedian’s comment, noting, “It was supposed to be a joke. I could have laughed it off, but it can hurt someone when they’re already struggling.” Ahn Sun Young then interjected, correcting Harisu’s softened account with her own powerful memory: “Harisu softened it. I said, ‘Do you think that’s funny, you crazy b—? F*cking bullsh*t. If you say that kind of thing one more time, I won’t let it go.’ We just fought.”
Harisu’s Enduring Impact and Priceless Friendship
This raw and honest recollection vividly illustrates Ahn Sun Young’s deep affection and unwavering loyalty to Harisu, along with the intense anger she felt witnessing such disrespect. Harisu, who debuted in the music scene in 2001 with her first album Temptation, holds a significant place in Korean entertainment history as the first transgender celebrity, making her journey and the support she receives from friends like Ahn Sun Young all the more poignant.
