Ningning’s Generous Donation Helps Seoul Seniors Beat Heat

aespa’s Ningning is once again warming hearts, not just with her stunning vocals but with a truly generous act of kindness! The talented idol has donated 20 million KRW (approximately 13,500 USD) to help vulnerable elderly people living alone in Seoul, providing essential summer relief as the city grapples with an ongoing heatwave.

Ningning’s Heartfelt Contribution to Heatwave Relief

On July 15, the Seoul Branch of the Korean Red Cross officially announced its “Summer Heatwave Relief Support Project,” a crucial initiative made possible, in part, by Ningning’s significant contribution. With a total budget of around 27 million KRW (roughly 18,200 USD), this program is specifically designed to shield at-risk seniors from severe heat-related illnesses during the scorching temperatures and tropical nights.

The project is set to support 600 single-person elderly households, all part of the Seoul Branch’s “Warmth for Every Home” outreach program, which focuses on assisting individuals vulnerable to dying alone. Recipients will receive practical and vital supplies: portable neck cooling fans to help them regulate their body temperature, alongside three types of delicious and nutritious ready-to-eat meals. These include the classic samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), hearty galbitang (beef short rib soup), and nourishing dohganitang (ox knee cartilage soup), all aimed at helping seniors maintain their health and strength throughout the summer months.

Direct Impact and Community Care

To maximize the effectiveness of this relief effort and ensure timely aid, the supplies are scheduled to be distributed twice before the end of July. In a testament to genuine care, the project eschews standard parcel delivery in favor of a personal, hands-on approach.

Dedicated Korean Red Cross volunteers, deeply familiar with their local communities, will personally visit each recipient’s home. During these visits, they will not only deliver the much-needed items but also take the time to check on the living conditions and overall health of the elderly individuals. Furthermore, they will provide crucial guidance and tips on how to stay safe and healthy amidst the extreme heat, offering a layer of personal connection and support that goes beyond mere material aid.

Park Myung Sook, who chairs the Seoul Council of Red Cross Volunteers, expressed profound gratitude for Ningning’s benevolence. “We sincerely thank Ningning for her generous support,” she stated. “Together with our dedicated volunteers, we will do our utmost to ensure her kindness reaches those who need it most, making a real difference in their lives.”

A Pledge From “Nothing Much Prepared”

This heartfelt donation by Ningning actually originated from her appearance on the popular YouTube web variety show, Nothing Much Prepared, back in May. During a fun drinking word-chain game with host Lee Young Ji, Ningning made a pledge to donate 20 million KRW to the Korean Red Cross. What’s truly remarkable is that even though Ningning won the game, she voluntarily honored her pledge and donated the full amount anyway, a gesture that earned her widespread praise and admiration for her incredible generosity and compassionate spirit.
